Solid Waste Management

There has been growing need to provide proper management of solid waste; Heb has been able to bridge the gap by collecting waste; ensuring residential areas, institutions and industries have proper sanitation and general quality of human urban life is maintained. We are also very keen on the best practices of managing waste. We have a policy whereby our customers sort waste at source into three different fractions; organic waste (mostly food and vegetative waste) and recyclable waste such as paper, plastics, glass & Metal and non-biodegradable waste (diapers, sanitary and others).

It has also occurred to as an organization that low income areas are also in need of proper waste management. We believe that all human beings deserve the same level of dignity. That is why we have come up with a product to provide the service at a subsidized price.

We collect various types of waste based on our clients’ need. Below is a breakdown of type of wastes that we collect.

Recycling

Recycling is the foundation of our waste management model. Heb Enterprise is able to recycle on average 95% of the waste we collect. Recycling simply means re-using garbage materials, instead of dumping them into a landfill. Reducing landfills is good because landfills release harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses. Recycling is also good as it saves energy and water because you don’t have to produce something from raw material. Examples of the products we recycle include PET bottles which can then be used to make fleece jackets, glass bottles can be re-used to make glasses, newspapers can be recycled into tissues while aluminium tins are recycled to make new aluminium tins.

Sorting

In order to recycle and compost the waste we collect accurately, we need to sort the waste. We currently have sorting sites, where we take the waste we collect, sort it into different fractions and subsequently recycle it. Heb Enterprise hires women and youth in close proximity to our sites. They are trained to know the different fractions of waste that we use, and sort everything into bigger sacks. This guarantee that PET bottles, aluminium tins and organic waste are separated and stored individually.
